New self-management programme to support carers

There are 6.5 million carers in the UK today[1], providing unique support to people living with a long-term health condition. Carers face many daily challenges, including dealing with mental and physical strain.

To help carers improve their health and wellbeing, self management uk, a charity leading provider of self-management training and education, has recently launched a new programme, Self Management for Life Carers.

Commissioning Show - 24th and 25th of July

Health and social care is crucial to us all. Self management uk is the market leader at the forefront of innovation and development in self-management education and training. We are at the Commissioning show on Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th June. Visit us at stand A20 to find out more about how we can work with you to provide better outcomes for patients and carers with our cost-effective programmes.

Building confidence and empowering people

Julie recently completed a self-management course in Southwark. Her action plan on week 1 was to start writing again. She joined a creative writing group, and the poem below was her first piece of work. She is now running the group. This all happened in a 7 weeks - 7 weeks of confidence building, empowering, listening and passing on self-management skills. We are so proud of Julie and all of the other ladies on the course. Well done!

Who am I?

I am Julie.

I am that child who was neglected and abused.

Keeping up the good work

I referred myself to the self-management course in 2014 because I was struggling to live with my long term conditions, most notably depression and hypothyroidism.

As the course progressed, I found that I was beginning to feel more confident and I felt better as I started to use many of the skills we discussed on the course.
