self management uk: Excellence in Education and Training for the NHS

Self Management for Life – Trainee Programme has been Commended in the category of “Hearing the Patient Voice in Education and Training” in the Health Education Wessex Shine Awards 2015.

The Self Management for Life – Trainee Programme is delivered to health and social care students to raise awareness and understanding of the role self-management plays in the lives of people with long-term conditions. It also teaches them tools and techniques which enable them to support patients to become active self-managers.

The Shine Awards, which recognise excellence in education and training for the NHS, received over 160 nominations. In the Hearing the Patient Voice in Education and Training category the judges were looking for people and teams who have courageously and creatively involved patients and the public in supporting the learning and development of the healthcare workforce.

Renata Drinkwater, chief executive for self management uk, said: “We are delighted to be commended for the Shine Awards. Patients are at the heart of everything we do and are fully engaged in the design and delivery of our programmes. We are pleased that their contribution has been recognised. Our work could not be done without them!”

The Shine Awards Ceremony will be held on the 15th of October, in Southampton.
